Chai spiced almond hot chocolate

Alpro’s chai spiced almond hot chocolate is perfect on a cold winter’s day. The plant-based recipe means that even vegans or diary-dodgers can enjoy the warming winter drink.

Preparation time: 10 mins

Ingredients (serves 4)

550ml Alpro Almond Unsweetened

2 cardamom pods

1 cinnamon stick

2 pinches ground ginger

2 cloves

3tbsp agave or honey

50g dark chocolate

1tbsp cocoa powder

1tbsp corn flour

1tbsp toasted flaked almonds

2 strawberries

Method

Prepare the cardamom pods by bruising them, then place into a saucepan along with the cinnamon, ginger, cloves, agave or honey and Alpro Almond Unsweetened.

Warm over a low heat and slowly bring to the boil.

Meanwhile, grate the chocolate onto a plate and mix with the cocoa powder and corn flour.

Take the warmed Alpro Almond Unsweetened and pour through a sieve to separate from the spices, then pour back into the pan and set over a low heat.

Gradually add the grated chocolate mixture, whisking continuously.

Heat the hot chocolate for 2 minutes then serve topped with the flaked almonds and a few slices of strawberry.
