Does bikini season seem to creep up on you every year? That’s because summer bodies are made in spring – so let’s get going…

The evenings are finally getting lighter and the afternoons longer. It’s time to put aside your excuses! It’s no longer too cold nor too dark, so let’s get up and get active. Spring is dawning on us and with the sunshine in firm reach it’s now the perfect time to start putting in the hard work to achieve your ideal summer body.

It happens to the best of us – that moment in July when we realise our summer holiday is just weeks away but the thought of stripping down to a bikini sends shivers through the spine. By starting a fitness journey earlier in the year, though, you’ll be able to kickstart a healthy and balanced lifestyle that leads to the body you want – which is far more achievable and enjoyable than cramming in seven workouts a week while crash dieting two weeks before you jet off. Plus it means if we get that cheeky scorcher of a weekend in April, we’re well and truly ready to get those short shorts out and wear them with confidence.

Here is a super straight-forward five move workout that’ll help you on your way and can be done from the comfort of your own home.

Perform each exercise for the instructed number of reps, with a 10 second rest in between each exercise. After the first set of all the moves, rest for one minute then repeat the circuit twice more.Burpee - Workouts for women - We Heart Living


Reps: 15

Crouch down placing your hands flat on the floor.

Jump the legs back into a plank position.

Then, jump the legs back in towards your hands.

Jump up high into the air to finish off the burpee.Press-up - We Heart Living


Reps: 10

Start in plank position on your hands.

Bend your arms to lower your chest to the floor, keeping your body in a straight line throughout.

Push up back to the start.Jump squat - We Heart Living

Squat jump

Reps: 20

With feet shoulder-width apart, bend the knees taking you to a low squat position, pushing the bottom out behind you.

From the bottom of the squat jump up into the air extending the body as high as you can.

Land softly with bent knees and repeat.Lunge - We Heart Living
Alternating lunge

Reps: 20

Stand with feet together, holding a dumbbell in each hand if you wish.

Lunge one leg forward, bending both knees to 90 degrees, ensuring the front knee does not go over the toe.

Push off the floor back to the centre and repeat on the opposite side.Plank transfer - We Heart Living

Plank transfer

Reps: 10

Start in a low plank position on your forearms.

Come up onto one hand, followed by the other so that you are in a high plank.

Come back down onto one elbow and then the other so you are back in low plank. Hold for 20 seconds.
