2. Variety is key

As the old adage goes, ‘variety is the spice of life’ and this applies to your health too. Keep your body constantly guessing by constantly mixing up the type of exercise you do and the intensity. Rather than slogging it out on the cross trainer or pounding the treadmill for hours, take up short, high intensity workouts like HIIT. UK Nike trainer Carly Newson recommends Tabata if you’re short on time as it’s ‘a great way to get your cardio done quickly and is scientifically proven to burn more calories after as it takes longer to get your heart rate back down to a resting state’. Consisting of a four minute workout, working 20 seconds on and 10 seconds rest eight times, not only does it torch fat, it also increases fitness levels and burn calories at a rate of knots.
