Sniffles, a sore noses and sneezing certainly make it tough to take in the beauty of winter. That’s why we’re here to help with 7 ways to fight flu.

We’re trying. We’re really trying to love the colder weather, longer nights and lack of sunshine. After all, there’s Christmas markets, hot chocolate and cosy nights in to take our attention away from that rubbish stuff. But try loving life during any season with a horrid flu to deal with and you’ll be hard pushed! Whether it’s the aching muscles, stuffy nose or fever that hits you hardest, one thing’s for sure: none of it’s fun.

We’ve asked the health experts at Alibi Drink to help us strengthen our immunity and fight flu, so we can enjoy this gorgeous season.

1. Eat kiwis

‘Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant, and is scientifically proven to help reduce the duration of a cold, so it’s important to keep your reserves topped up. Kiwi fruits are bursting with the stuff, even more so if you can bear to eat the fuzzy skin.’

2. Get to bed

‘It’s been shown time and time again that a lack of sleep has a detrimental effect on the immune system. Give your body a break and get some good kip.’

3. Eat spicy foods

‘Chillies are a great way to help boost your immunity. As an added bonus, if you start feeling fluey, munching on a chilli can help by opening up the respiratory system.’ Try this delicious spicy Khow Suey recipe to add some spice to your day.

4. Get to the gym

‘Regular exercise helps to increase the number of immune cells, helping the body fight colds and flus.’

5. Get outside

‘Being stuck in an air conditioned office all day is never going to be good for you, especially not at this time of year with cold germs circulating around. Ensure you get some fresh air for half an hour at lunch time.’

6. Load up on leafy greens

‘Dark green leafy vegetables such as kale and broccoli are high in phytochemicals – these give the vitamins a supercharged boost.’ Try these quinoa, kale and walnut burgers to get a kale fix this week.

7. Avoid alcohol

‘This suppresses the immune system, which is the last thing your body needs when you’re fighting the flu.’
