Snacking is the downfall of many a diet, but smart snacking could help you get the results you’re after. No we’re not talking about a choccy bar here and a pack of crisps there, healthy snacking is all about fuelling your body with nutritious and filling foods to keep you on track.

If you want to ensure you’re reaching for healthy options when hunger strikes, the key is to be prepared. Healthy snacks can be easy peasy to make or carry around, but you do have to put some thought into it. Try out a few options and when you find something that works for you, stick it on your weekly shopping list and prepare it on the weekend for the week ahead.

So what sorts of food are we looking at? Well protein is always a good bet as it will fill you up, but a little bit of healthy fat, some complex carbs and a good helping of vitamins and mineral have their place, too.

A chopped apple or chopped celery with nut butter
