A day in the life of BOOM Cycle’s Hilary!

I wake up at 07:45… and check whatsapp to see if there are any issues concerning the early classes at either of the BOOM Cycle studios.

I have a matcha green tea… while catching up on emails and social media.  Fill your matcha bowl with enough cold water to cover the bottom, scoop a double shot out of the bag with a bamboo spatula and put it in the water. Then mix the powder into the water with a bamboo whisk and once it’s mixed thoroughly with no bits, I add hot water from the kettle.

‘I make my matcha tea straight up with water, there is a certain technique to getting it right.’

I tuck into a healthy breakfast… of poached eggs, rye toast and avocado with strong black coffee and a fresh juice made of kale or spinach, cucumber, apple ginger and broccoli.

If I teach in the mornings… I try to get in a matcha and a green juice that I make at home first and a black coffee for the journey in. If I don’t have the juice or matcha, I still have the coffee. I need the coffee!

I usually take public transport… to work, which is super easy from Highgate to either BOOM Cycle studios in Holborn and Shoreditch. Sometimes, if it’s nice weather I run in, which is a great way to start the day. Otherwise we drive the car if we need it for work that day.

I’ll get into the office around 10:00… and deal with all kinds of things from assessing instructors, meetings, strategy, new recovery shake tastings, covering classes you name it!

At some point I will have lunch… either a massive salad or a falafel wrap. I get my lunch from a number of different places around the office or from waitrose. I try to mix it up and it’s usually a falafel wrap from L’Express, a dish from Leon, like the chicken and olive tagine or a slow-burner salad from POD.

I often teach in the evenings… and then head home after that to cook dinner. For dinner we usually have homemade curry that we prepared at the weekend, with such busy schedules it’s nice to be able to have a wholesome dinner that you just need to heat and eat! I usually have mine with no rice, just pappadoms. We’re big fans of spicy food! Otherwise we just have something fresh and easy, such as fish and veggies cooked in coconut oil. I almost always have a popsicle or two after, or a couple of squares of dark chocolate.

‘I get wild on the bike and without a headband my hair would be everywhere!’

I pack my bag with loads of outfits… for all the different things I will do the next day – the most important things in my gym bag are my BOOM Cycle sports bra if I am teaching that day and a head band, And I LOVE Lululemon, Sweaty Betty. I also just got a hot little sports bra form Zaazee.

I usually watch a Netflix series until I fall asleep… I love everything on Netflix! Narcos and Sense 8 are my current faves!
