Ski season is officially upon us, and we’ve got three awesome reasons to book that trip ASAP! The snow is fresh, the skies are crystal clear, the sun is shining and you’re surrounded by spectacular white mountains and a clear piste. Never been skiing before? Or maybe you just haven’t booked your next trip yet? What are you waiting for?

It’s the most fun you’ll ever have doing sport

If you’ve had a stressful time of it lately, a ski trip offers the perfect opportunity to get away from the chaos of daily life and truly relax. And when we say relax, we don’t mean laying on a sunbed for a week, we mean using so much energy up in the day you sleep like a baby at night, and get the chance to fully switch off from work and technology (although we can’t promise there won’t be copious amounts of selfies). Trust us, hop on a chairlift and just listen – out on the mountains it’s completely silent apart from the sound of skis or snowboards carving through the snow. Soak up your beautiful surroundings and you’ll soon realise there truly is nothing better than feeling invigorated and renewed in the refreshing Alpine air.

Sound good? It gets better. The adrenaline rush you get speeding over fresh powder is like no other and you get to do it over and over again every day. Learning (or honing) a new skill is super fun, especially when you’re with friends and family. Take regular pit stops and long lunches in cafe cabins and restaurants perched high on hilltops and at the end of the day, kick off your skis and go for a well-earned drink! You didn’t think we’d forget après did you? The best and liveliest atmosphere is in the mountains to top off a perfect day and dress code is always casual, so you can rock out in your oversized Christmas jumper and woolly hat without a care in the world. (Warning: it gets pretty rowdy.)

And it’s crazy good for you

Skiing is so fun, among all the laughter and selfies, you almost forget it’s a sport! Skiing is actually really good for you and is a great way to boost your fitness while still being on holiday. Not only does it burn about 350 calories an hour (and everyday you’ll be skiing for around six hours), the best part is that all that balancing and twisting and turning gives your core muscles a pretty intense workout, helping to improve your balance, posture and body strength. So forget lying down on a sun-lounger tanning it up all day, skiing gets you out there and at it, without you even realising you’re working out.

Plus, its perfect for friends and family alike

Whether you’re holidaying with your friends, family or other half, skiing will cater for you all. For starters, with so many resorts across the world, whether you’re a family with small kids, an expert skier after the best black runs, or looking for a really good party in the mountains, we can assure you there is somewhere for everyone. Accommodation is also extremely varied with large chalets perfect for big groups of friends, as well as smaller cabins, hotels and apartments ideal for families and couples. No matter where you are, you’ll also have the option to go catered, which is a real luxury. Not only is there no washing up or cleaning, there’s also much-earnt afternoon tea waiting for you when you return from the mountain, an abundance of wine and a three-course meals as divine as the amazing alpine food you’ll find in the restaurants. The beauty of skiing also means you can do as much or as little as you like – if you fancy getting up super early and catching the first lift up the mountain to make the first tracks of the day, then feel free but equally, have a cheeky lie-in if you went a bit too hard on the vin chaud last night; after all, you’ve got the whole day of snow-time. If you’re a friendship group or family of mixed abilities, the choice of green, blue, red and black runs means the mountains really do cater for everyone – just meet up at the chairlift at the bottom and do it all over again!
