Our pick of the best reusable water bottles is a great way to celebrate World Water Day.

In recent years, reusable water bottles have been on the up – enjoying a surge of popularity since we woke up to the harmful and negative effects bottled water has on our environment. But such a step in the right direction is still dwarfed by our excessive use and disregard for plastic water bottles. While 1.1 billion people in the world lack clean, safe drinking water, this multi-billion-pound market is becoming an unnecessary western extravagance – the UK has some of the cleanest tap water in the world and blind taste tests have proved Britons can’t even tell the difference in taste.

So, to be part of the solution, we thought we’d share with you our best reusable water bottles that we think you’ll love just as much. They’re clever, cute and relatively un-costly. Best of all, better for you, your pennies and our environment.

Scary facts
The UK consumes 18 billion plastic bottles each year. How many of those are recycled? A mere quarter. So, every single day, 38 million bottles end up in a landfill – yearly that’s enough to stretch to the moon and back 50 times! But they’ll decompose really quickly, right? Wrong. In fact they can take up to a staggering 450 years to decompose. Oh, and the carbon footprint of bottled water is more than 500 times that of tap water. This is not sustainable nor healthy and we don’t need any more reasons to make a change.

What’s the alternative? Not only are reusable bottles better for your wallet, they are also more economical and environmentally-friendly than discarding bottles after one use, which, we are all guilty of doing at one time or another. However, so many people still favour convenience and ease, buying into the market and fuelling our gross plastic bottle wastage.

Here are our pick of the best reusable water bottles:

Urban Bottle

Urban Bottle

For those travelling light
The Urban Bottle is
the lightest reusable stainless steel bottle around. It is BPA-, phthalates- and toxin-free, carries 500ml and weighs 103g (117g with the lid on); the leak-proof lid is a must and the wide mouth makes it easy for cleaning and means you can add ice cubes – very handy for the warmer weather. It can carry anything you fancy and comes in wide range of shades. We’re loving these pastel shades.
