Sometimes it can be difficult to fit exercise into your precious Saturdays or Sundays, but there are some very good reasons to go for a run this weekend. Not least because popping out for a speedy run is a great way to get your fix without having to factor in travel time to the gym or studio – plus it’s free of charge! Still not sure you can drum up the motivation to get off the sofa and get out there? WHL Running Editor Bethan Taylor gives you three more reasons to lace up.

1. Exercise releases lots of amazing hormones that make you feel fantastic!

You can’t argue with the fact that you always feel better after a run than before it, right? OK, you’ll be sweaty and panting, but that runner’s high will lift your mood, boost your energy and get you ready to take on the day.

2. You can explore new places. Is there a neighbourhood you’ve always fancied checking out but you’ve never made it there?
Well now you have an excuse! Head to a new corner of town and check it out! Whether you’re a city slicker or surrounded by countryside there’s always somewhere new to explore. Covered your local routes hundreds of times? Jump on the train or hop in the car for five minutes and check out somewhere a bit further afield.

3. It’s a great opportunity to hang out with your friends and have a chat!
A bit of company is a great motivator to get you pounding the pavements. Arrange to meet a friend, catch up as you run, then stop off at a local coffee shop (or the pub!) for a post-run bevvy or brunch.
