Saving the ocean thread by thread, adidas has launched an eco-friendly trainer, the Parley UltraBOOST X by Stella McCartney – and they’re the trainers you need to know about.

Adidas has combined a high performance shoe and environmentally friendly materials with the launch of the Parley UltraBOOST X trainer by Stella McCartney. On a mission to look after our oceans, the top sportswear brand is focusing on using recyclable materials whilst keeping up with their high performance designs. Their collaboration with green thinkers Parley for the Oceans – who transform marine plastic waste into performance yarn – marks the brand’s commitment to eco-innovation.

‘I strongly believe in making clothing that is ethically created and built to last, and this is an ideology I channel into every single piece I design,’ says Stella McCartney. ‘For me, preserving and respecting the planet is fundamental to what I do and I always try to make an effort to consider that in my designs. I’m really impressed by the work adidas and Parley for the Oceans do to create the materials used in our high-performance apparel and footwear.’

Featuring yarn spun from reclaimed and recycled marine waste, the Parley UltraBOOST X is crafted to reflect the female foot’s natural form. The adaptive adidas Primeknit upper offers strategic support, while a female-specific free-floating arch design hugs your foot, letting you move and flex naturally. Fashioning an elegant white palette inspired by the boundless energy of the oceans’ open waters, the trainer reflects Stella McCartney’s modern designs, as well as her passion for ethical and sustainable clothing.

‘Stella McCartney is a pioneer, a rebel really,’ says Cyrill Gutsch, founder of Parley for the Oceans. ‘Her vision to create fashion without using leather, without using fur, was radical when she started and is proven now. She has always been a role model for me. To partner with her is an honour and huge opportunity for the Ocean Plastic movement.’
